Pineapple Dream

When Sahayak first became a disciple, he was very enthuse in our fundraising effort. One day he burst in to tell us about a most brilliant idea he just had for fundraising – selling pineapple.

He explained that when he was travelling in Thailand in his youth, he came around vendor selling cut pieces of pineapple on the beach. You cut it in such a way that you leave a little stalk as handle to hold. They were selling like hot cakes on the beach in Thailand according to Sahayak. He recon with Brisbane sub-tropic weather and the fact that we grow pineapple in Queensland is a sure indication of the success for this little escapade.pineapple

Kapila and I, eager to play the ‘perfect’ Centre Leader role, were all supportive of the idea. So Sahayak and David went off to cut up about 300 pineapple pieces all night Friday. They then delivered to our little stall at the Brunswick Street Mall and off they went with very sorry looking hands to some other adventure.

Kapila and I stood all day in the sun and sold 6 pieces !!!

The happy ending …. We have pineapple juice, pineapple ice, pineapple jam, pineapple chutney, pineapple muffin, pineapple cake, pineapple curry, pineapple everything for the next 3 months and we have a memorable experience that we will never let Sahayak forget !
